WHY CHOOSE NAPPIES?

Good for the environment

Disposable diapers provide 1 ton of waste per child, washable nappies provide hardly any waste. Partly because of this, washable nappies (both production and washing) emit 1.5 to 2.5 times less CO2 than disposable diapers. In addition, washable nappies require 7 times less land to produce the raw materials than disposable diapers. Moreover, for disposable diapers, 6 trees per child are uprooted and 67 liters of crude oil are processed into plastic.

Fine for the bum

A second important advantage of washable nappies is the effect on your baby's bottom. Children who wear washable nappies are much less likely to have diaper rash. This is firstly because disposable diapers consist of 15% to 30% plastic and use a super-absorber. These granules turn into a gel when moisture is added and are so absorbent that they often dry out the baby's skin, making it more susceptible to infections. The chemicals in disposable diapers also sometimes causing irritated or sensitive skin. Washable diapers are made of highly absorbent materials such as bamboo, cotton, hemp or microfibre. These materials can absorb a lot of moisture, but will eventually feel wet. So a baby wearing a washable diaper is more likely to have wet buttocks than a baby wearing a disposable diaper, but this generally has no effect on the buttocks. Because washable diapers don't draw moisture from the skin, the skin often remains better balanced, even when wet for a longer period of time.

Much smaller chance of spray diapers

Washable nappies have good elastic bands in the back and near the legs making them fit better than disposable diapers. Because of this, the chance of spray diapers is much smaller than with disposable diapers. This saves a number of annoying changes.

Good for hip development

Washable nappies are wider between the legs than disposable diapers. This wide leg position is very good for hip development. The wide washable diaper pushes the legs a little into the frog position. Here, the hip head is pushed well into the hip socket, allowing the hips to develop optimally. Moreover, children have been sitting in their mother's belly for nine months. For them too, it feels very familiar! Fortunately, the wide position of the hips does not have a negative influence on the motor development. Children who wear washable nappies just roll, crawl and walk and are no slower than their peers who wear disposable diapers.

Faster potty-trained

Because babies with a washable nappy get wet buttocks faster when they pee, they are more likely to become aware of peeing and defecating moments. Because of this, these children are potty-trained on average half a year earlier than children who wear disposable diapers. Very nice for your child, but it also saves you a lot of time and disposable diapers. Even though the use of washable nappies initially takes a little more time because you also have to wash, you save a lot of time back in toddler time.

Save money

Did you know that during the first year of life an average of 500-650€ is spent on nappies? By choosing washable diapers you can save some money.
