WASHABLE DIAPERS HAVE SEVERAL BENEFITS
They are good for your baby's bottom: diaper rash is much less common with washable diapers. This is because disposable diapers are made up of 15 to 30% plastic. Disposable diapers contain a super-absorbent granules that absorb the moisture, these unfortunately also dry out the baby's skin and thus make the baby more prone to infections. Also, the chemicals in disposable diapers often cause irritated or sensitive skin. Washable diapers consist of naturally high-absorbent fabrics such as cotton, bamboo, hemp and microfiber. These fabrics are highly absorbent and, although they feel wet to the touch, they can't damage baby's bottom because they don't pull moisture away from it.
They are good for the environment: on average we use 1 ton of disposable diapers per child. In comparison, washable diapers hardly create any waste. Both the production and the washing of the diapers results in 1.5-2.5 times less CO2 emissions compared to disposable diapers. On top of that, washable diapers require 7 times less land to produce the raw materials. For every child using disposable diapers, 6 trees are needed and 67 liters of crude oil are needed to produce plastic.
Less chance of a leaking diaper with washable diapers.
Washable diapers are wider between the legs, this allows for proper hip development. The washable diapers push the legs into the frog position, so the head of the hip is well pressed into the hip socket. The position of the hips does not affect the babies' motor development in any way, they do not roll over, crawl or step at a later age than babies using disposable diapers.
Babies using washable diapers are potty trained faster, on average 6 months earlier than when using disposable diapers. They become aware of getting wet in the washable diaper sooner. This saves a lot of time and a lot of disposable diapers in toddlerhood.
They are also good for your wallet: the first year of life we spend on average 500-650 euros on disposable diapers. Choosing washable diapers can therefore save you some money
